Taste For Business

Wellesley’s Wonderful Weekend heats up

We experimented with to make the rounds for the duration of Saturday’s Wellesley Wonderful Weekend activities ahead of the true heat established in, but you know how it goes. Way too a great deal pleasurable, much too a lot of pals, and the upcoming thing you know you’re dragging your sweaty self household an hour afterwards than prepared.

But it was nicely truly worth it to see the return of favorite gatherings like town division open houses, and to meet some people we’d only regarded via email messages and Zoom phone calls.

A continuous stream of pancakes, ham, and other breakfast goodies had been doled at Wellesley High School by the Critical Club, Wellesley Kiwanis Club associates, and Whitsons Food Provider team to appreciative patrons.

Then it was more than to the Tailby Lot, where by Wellesley Law enforcement and the Kiwanis teamed up for a bicycle security occasion. We skipped out on seeing kids pop wheelies, but WPD customers impressed on their wheels. As 1 officer reported to the other: “Would you have believed it if a person informed you that you could get paid out for using your bicycle?”

From there we headed to Rte. 9, storming the gates of the Municipal Light Plant, Section of Community Works, and Wellesley Hearth Departments. Hey, if you invite the masses to prevent in for an open up residence, and you present cookies, sizzling canine, juice boxes, and other goodies, we will pay out a simply call.

MLP and other city officers have been sharing information on mobility and other efforts in city.

The DPW experienced a bunch of things likely on at when. DPW Director Dave Cohen was accumulating gently worn small business apparel to pass on to those who may need them for position interviews and other work-associated activities. The DPW was also filling a truck with merchandise for the Wellesley Foods Pantry. And of training course there have been trucks, vans, and a lot more trucks for children and grown ups to ogle and climb on. Just after two yrs of COVID limits on such gatherings, Cohen mentioned it was good see individuals have the likelihood to actually contact the trucks again.

At the Hearth Office Main Rick DeLorie regaled us with tales about…everything, as young ones climbed about a boat, explored the interior workings of the hearth engines, and sprayed true water at a phony hearth.
